BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK (February – March 2019)
It’s a passive activity for teens and children in celebration of the Heart’s Month last February 2019 but was extended until March. Its aim is to arouse curiosity among participants on what to expect with a concealed book.
Participants are from MPGCHS, MPSPED Center, BCS and ASMIS.
Each book has a rating card. Each rating card accomplished by the participants is raffled at the end of the activity. There are at least three (3) participants who won the raffle and were given some tokens from sponsors who do not want to be named.
TECH4ED Launching (March 25, 2019)
- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and LGU Bontoc entered a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in establishing the Tech4Ed Center here at the Bontoc Municipal Library.
- Tech4Ed is Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Economic Project.
- DICT donated four units of desktop computers, one unit printer, one CCTV Camera and four headsets while LGU Bontoc will shoulder the internet expenses and maintenance of the pieces of equipment.
- The Tech4Ed Project is for public use especially catering to Out of School Youth and Adults (OSYA), women, teachers, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Persons with Disability (PWDs), senior citizens, indigenous people, and entrepreneurs.
- The use of the computer units are free of charge.
- Tech4Ed was launched last March 25, 2019. It was attended by Municipal Mayor Franklin Odsey, Municipal Vice Mayor Eusebio S. Kabluyen, Sangguniang Bayan Members Viola Okko, Esteban Nguddo, Robert Dacyon, Alfredo Awichen and IPMR Tomas Longatan; personnel from Bontoc Police Station (MPS), ALS teacher and students, Team Alakdan and some employees of the Bontoc LGU
Culture-based Short Story Writing (July 12, 2019)
Our library’s objective among others is to supplement the information needs of students, teachers and other professionals in the municipality. Hence, the conduct of a free seminar-workshop for teachers on story writing titled, “Culture-based Short Story Writing for Beginners” on July 12, 2019 (9AM to 5PM) at the Bontoc Municipal Library, 3rd Floor, Bontoc Municipal Capitol.
We have invited an Igorot writer, Ms. Frances “Ambit” Singlot as our resource person in this workshop. She authored the following books: The Aberrant, Serendipity and Love Conquers.
This training aims for participants to recognize the elements of a short story, to discuss practical steps in writing a short story and to develop their creative writing skills by preparing a culture-based short story.
The seminar-workshop was participated by 11 teachers from Mountain Province-Department of Education.

Reading Challenge (November 2019)
Pursuant to proclamation No. 837, s. 1991, the month of November of every year is Library and Information Services (LIS) Month. This is in recognition of the need to focus public awareness to the invaluable service that libraries and information centers render. This year’s theme is “Inclusive Innovative Interconnected”.
To promote awareness in the observance of the event, the Bontoc Municipal Library shall conduct a related activity entitled “2019 Reading Challenge” to 5-19 years olds from November 5 to December 6, 2019.
Participants are categorized into two: Children and Teens. This activity challenges participants to read at least 20 minutes a day from Mondays to Fridays. Every week that they fill out their reading logs, they will get one star punched on their punch cards. They must collect five (5) stars to complete the challenge.
The 2019 Reading Challenge was coordinated with Department of Education-Mountain Province Schools Division Office (DepEd MPSDO), Learning Resource Management Services (LRMS), Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School (MPGCHS) Library, Saint Vincent High School (SVHS) Library and the Bontoc Business Sectors.
Thru this collaboration, there are about 78 Teens and 38 Children who joined the challenge. Participants came from two (2) high schools and six (6) elementary schools respectively: Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School (MPGCHS), Saint Vincent High School (SVHS), Samoki Elementary School, Ut-utan Elementary School, Mountain Province Special Education (MPSPED) Center, All Saints Mission Elementary School (ASMES), Bontoc Central School (BCS) and Saint Vincent Elementary School (SVES).
Teens were required to read at their school libraries for monitoring by their librarians or class advisers; while children are monitored by their parents or guardians at home. The participants filled up their daily reading logs and submitted it at the Bontoc Municipal Library every week to earn their stars.
The participants who completed the challenge are given four (4) gift cards each and a certificate of completion, while three (3) star earners are given three (3) gift cards. Prizes and certificates were all delivered and awarded to their respective schools.
Business sectors who sponsored the gift cards are Infinitea, Tchayapan Hotel and Restaurant, Urbanitea, The Terrace,Kamfili’s Café, Cuppa Joy Tea Shop, Tea Corner, Annayah’s, Jegala Resto, Bontoc Bed and Bistro, Kath Sumcad Photo Factory and Gallery Shop, JJF Snackhaus, Jubilee Store, Teacup, Tea’ssence, Snack n Sip and Gigglemug Café, Café Tagtag and Drop By Restaurant.
Evidently, this activity has increased the number of visits at the library and definitely gained positive feedback from the parents, business sectors and other stakeholders.
ORGANIZING SCHOOL LIBRARIES DRIVE (December 9-11, 2019)
This program is another activity instigated in celebration of the 29th Library and Information Services (LIS) Month thru the MP-DepEd Schools Division Office entitled: “Organizing Libraries Drive”.
This activity aims to provide technical and manpower support to the organization of the identified school library and/or learning corner, to orient the library-in-charge of the management of their libraries among others.
In relation, registered librarians in Mountain Province were invited to participate in the said event. At least six (6) librarians joined the organizing drive from MPSPC Library, MP-DEPED Schools Division Office, MPGCHS Library, EBNAVHS Library and Bontoc Municipal Library.
We were assigned at Data National High school, Sabangan, Mountain Province last December 9-11, 2019.
