Brief History of the Barangay
Oral accounts of elders trace the origin of the Guina-ang people as far back to the great deluge when nobody supposedly survived. The story is told of how Lumawig (the Bontoc supreme God) roamed the Earth in search of the survivors when the water was recede. He found two (2) siblings, a man in different mountains. The man has found at Mount Kalawitan located at Bayyo, Bontoc while his sister was found at Mount Patok located between Mainit and Maligcong. The two eventually had children among whom were Magayaman and Magtan. These two married and their descendants are believed to be the original settlers or they were called the i-Camoyos.
According to the key informant, the people once lived in Yommad (where some of the community’s rice field is foung). It was a flat area near the river bank today. Settlers enjoyed their life then. River water came out from the rivers present source and flooded portion of the settlement. The people became afraid thinking that the settlement might be totally flooded when a strong typhoon comes in the future. The elders met and the elders or leaders told the people “inkhina-ang tao” let us part ways “ta waschin umey umilas in iliyan cha” that each group of families go and find a place to settle in.
It happened that a group went at INFAFAREY or OPOOP, another group to TAKKIKI, another group to AKKANG, and the other group followed the river and unknowingly this group settled at Guina-ang, Pasil Kalinga Province. This people are called “IYAMKHINA-ANG” by the people of Guina-ang, Bontoc which seems the prefix “iyam” denotes that this people of Guina-ang, Pasil are part of the people of Guina-ang, Bontoc
After many years of living in the new settlements, a family in infafarey or Opoop found that their pig (pregnant sow) is missing and is nowhere to be found, so the father in the family called some other males to join himgo and search for missing sow, then men went searching the pig. While nearing the present community they found a pig’s footprints which found followed until they found the pig at Kak-ayang, Mongao, Guina-ang almost to deliver its piglets then men went back to infafarey. When the community know that the pig was found they decided to go and settle where the pig is and so they lived at Kak-ayang, Mongao, one of the purok of present Guina-ang. While the aforesaid people are settled down they found out that they are already people or families living a little far them who are called the I-Camoyos (original settlers of Guina-ang).
After a year so, the people at Akkang came and joined the Opoopeans and the I-Camoyos. Now the Opoops and the Akkangs who are from Yommad ae living together with the Camoyos (original settlers) at present called Guina-ang. Not to forget that only one woman by the name Pokey survived at Takkiki but she joined the living together at Community Guina-ang.
