Bontoc, Mountain Province – To address health issues among children in Bontoc, the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU), through its Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC), continuously promote health, improve nutrition, and provide livelihood opportunities for the community.
Earlier today, November 19, 2024, the Municipal Health Office (MHO) and the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg) distributed two hundred heads of 21-day-old chicks to 20 parents of malnourished children from various barangays in Bontoc. The activity took place at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol.
According to Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Venous Faith Cofulan, the recipients were the parents or guardians of malnourished children under five years old (0-59 months) who had participated in the First Quarter of Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) of the MHO.
Likewise, Municipal Government Assistant Department Head Catherine Agcon of the OMAg noted that this initiative is part of the Bontoc LGUโs Nutrition Program.
She added that the program is conducted annually by the Municipal Agriculturist Office to reach more beneficiaries each year.
Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr., representing Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., highlighted the importance of this program as part of the LGU’s many efforts to enhance health and nutrition while having income-generating opportunities for the community.
